Trust

Some situations hit us in life and we wonder whether God is still faithful. We remember His past promises to us but then our present circumstance contradicts those promises and then we start doubting his words. I could imagine Joseph's state of mind after being sold to Portiphar and later being sent to the prison. I can't even imagine how dejected he might have been. However, one thing was constant about Joseph and that was his trust in and faithfulness to God.
Even when he could simply enjoy himself with Portiphar's wife, and enjoy luxury at the house through the wife's influence; he rather chose to trust in and fear God.

Genesis 39:9  There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

Trusting in God is a part of our lifestyle as believers. This is because it is in believing that he is and trusting that he can do all things that we can fully enjoy his blessings of which salvation comes first.

When we trust God, it is like saying "no matter what happens to me, I know you are here with me and able to keep me with your loving grace".

That alone is enough to relieve us of any pain we may be going through. At times when we are in distress, and desperately need help, it is usually easy to seek man's help rather than to run to God. However, it has been proven continually and over time that vain is the help of man and that it is only through God that we can do valiantly.

Psalms 118:8-9  It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

Man is relative and variable, while God is constant and unflinching in his promises. Whatever he promises to do, he surely would; at times it may seem like all hopes are lost but that is when he makes a way. Everyone thought Joseph was dead but then God made him the saving grace of nations, a prime minister in a strange land.
Remember that King Hezekiah was confronted by King Sennacherib.

2 Kings 18:29-33  Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.
Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

However, his trust in God made him overcome even without having to go out to war.

Benefits of trusting in God
1. He would bring your desires to pass: No man can satisfy our heart desires except God. He is our maker and thus knows how to fashion our life best.
Psalms 37:5  Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

2. Our trusting in God makes us get the Best without struggles: Joseph didn't have to struggle to become a prime minister. King Hezekiah did not have to stress himself going to war. Their trust in God gave them the best without struggles.

2 Kings 19:32-35  Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

3. You would never be disappointed: God never dashes the hope of his children. He would never make anyone who trusts in Him to be ashamed.
Psalms 22:4-5  Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

4. You would be established: Just like a tree planted by the river side with deep roots, the same way those who trusts in the lord are established and unmovable
Psalms 21:7  For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.
Psalms 125:1  They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

On whom do you place your trust? Man or God?
